American food is packed with sugar, trans fat, preservatives, artificial ingredients, toxins and more. The average person is slowly eating themselves to death without realizing it, even if they are skinny.
What Patients Need to Understand About the Dangers of Fattening Foods
The human body absolutely needs healthy fats every day. A five-year comparison of data from 2015-2020 on shows approximately 75% of Americans eat way too much fat of the wrong kind. The bad fats are trans fats, animal fats and much of it fried.  We need healthy fats that come from nuts, avocado, coconut, etc. This excess of the wrong types of fat, plus sugar, translates into unhealthy cholesterol levels, obesity, heart disease, and cancer.
High bad fat diets have been shown to increase the risk of colon and breast cancer in particular, but the overall cancer rate increases. We need lots of vegetables, complex carbohydrates, fiber, fruit and all are demonstrated to help prevent cancer.
What Patients Need to Understand About the Dangers of Sugar
Sugar is snuck into food all over America, including seemingly healthy snacks like salad dressings, dried fruit, and pasta sauce. In the US, added sugars account for up to 17% of the total calorie intake. Experts believe that sugar consumption is a major cause of obesity and many chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, cause weight gain, poor skin health, increase your risk of heart disease, cancer, depression, low energy, and more.
Evidence suggests that high-sugar diets can lead to obesity, inflammation, high triglycerides, blood sugar and blood pressure levels — all risk factors for heart disease. Another study following 8,000 people for 22 years showed that men who consumed 67 grams or more of sugar per day were 23% more likely to develop depression than men who ate less than 40 grams per day.
One solution: Get in the habit of reading product labels even on items you’re certain have no added sugar. If it does, do not buy it.
What Patients Need to Understand About the Dangers of Preservatives
Artificial preservatives are meant to prevent food from spoiling, not make consumers healthier. Some of the most popular are sodium benzoate, sorbic acid, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT).
Eating preservatives has been shown to increase the risk of cancer. They have also been shown to bring on breathing problems, like asthma and bronchitis. BHA and BHT can induce allergic reactions in the skin. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies BHA as a possible human carcinogen.
