Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S.

April 24, 2017 Puzzle Piece

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S.  Anxiety type syndromes affect 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older. That is about 18% of the population.  This information comes from the National Institute of Mental Health.

These disorders are highly treatable in both the orthodox and wellness arenas.  It is interesting only about one-third of those suffering receive treatment of any type.  I am going to give you facts and figures first.  I will then give you possible natural solutions to balance dysfunction.

The combination of anxiety disorders cost the U.S. more than $42 billion a year.  That is almost one-third of the country's $148 billion total mental health bill, according to "The Economic Burden of Anxiety Disorders," a study commissioned by ADAA (The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, 60(7), July. 1999).  More than $22.84 billion of those costs are associated with the repeated use of health care services.  Physical illness and anxiety mimic each other.  Doctors and patients have a difficult time knowing which is which.  In the Six Steps to Wellness, we treat all of them simultaneously to very often achieve great success.

Medical statistics demonstrate that people with an anxiety disorder are three to five times more likely to go to the doctor and six times more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric disorders than those who do not suffer from anxiety disorders.  Medicine recognizes anxiety disorders develop from a complex set of risk factors.  They include in their literature genetics, brain chemistry, personality, and life events.  Brimhall practitioners list structural, electromagnetic, nutrition, emotional stressors, toxins and allergy/sensitivities.  Those of us the practice the Brimhall Protocol or the Six Steps to Wellness address each of these six interferences on each patient if possible.  A patient is most likely to have all 6.  Not understanding, evaluating and treating all 6 interferences is why these conditions are so costly and ongoing.

It's not uncommon for someone with an anxiety disorder to also suffer from depression.  Sometimes they blend together where the patient can feel both anxious and depressed at the same time or back and forth intermittently.  About half of those diagnosed with depression are also diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)  affects 6.8 million adults, or 3.1% of the U.S. population.
Women are twice as likely to be affected as men.

Panic Disorder affects about 6 million, or 2.7% of the US population. Again Women are twice as likely to be affected as men.  There is a high correlation with panic attacks and major depression.

Social Anxiety Disorder is listed at 15 million or 6.8% of the population. This condition is equally common among men and women, typically beginning around age 13.  According to a 2007 ADAA survey, 36% of people with social anxiety disorder report experiencing symptoms for 10 or more years before seeking help.

Specific Phobias affect about 19 million or 8.7%.  Women are twice as likely to be affected as men. Typically this condition begins in childhood.  The median age of onset is estimated to be about 7.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are closely related to anxiety disorders, which some may experience at the same time, along with depression. Women are twice as likely to be affected as men. Typically they can begin in childhood with the median age of onset being about 7.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are closely related to anxiety disorders, which some may experience at the same time, along with depression.  2.2 million, or 1.0% of the population are estimated to manifest this condition with it equally common among men and women. The median age of onset is 19, with 25 percent of cases occurring by age 14. One-third of affected adults first experienced symptoms in childhood.

We hear a lot about Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) these days.  It affects about 7.7 million, 3.5% of the population with women more likely to be affected than men.  Rape is the most likely trigger of PTSD.  65% of men and 45.9% of women who are raped will develop the disorder.  Childhood sexual abuse is a strong predictor of lifetime likelihood for developing PTSD.

A Major Depressive Disorder is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. for ages 15 to 44.
It affects more than 15 million American adults, or about 6.7 percent of the U.S. population age 18 and older. While major depressive disorder can develop at any age, the median age at onset is 32.5 and is more prevalent in women than in men.

Enough, you say!  What is the solution?  The DC behind Chiropractors names stands for Doctor of Cause.  All of these dysfunctions can have multiple causes and manifestations.  Dr Goodheart said structure rules function.  Be it spinal or cranial, many people are helped with specific structural corrections. We teach spinal, cranial, extremity and visceral adjusting.  We have DVD's and online courses, to compliment the seminars we teach on the Six Steps to Wellness.  Please contact our office at 480-964-5198 or www.brimhall.com

Electromagnetic pollution is everywhere with powerlines, computers, cell phones, lights etc.  We are constantly being stressed out. We have specific Environmental Shields we recommend to use in your home and office.  We have specific units that attach to your phone and computers.  Again go to the Brimhall.com website or call the office.

Nutritional deficiencies is a major causation of physical and emotional manifestations.  Test for Opti-Thyroid, Opti-Adrenal, Opti-Brain (soon to come), Opti-Methyl B, Opti-Iodine and Opti-Mito-Force etc.  Infections, whether evident or hidden cause dysfunction in the Brain and Nervous Systems, as well as everywhere in the body.  80-90% of the immune system is in the gut and Immune suppression or upregulation affects emotions and behavior. Tests for Opti-Immune VRL, Optimal Defense and the Opti-Metals and Enviro Detox formulas.  Also test for digestive enzymes and Optimal Floral.  The stats state women are more affected than men.  So test for Optimal Female + B as well as the previously mentioned nutritionals.

We teach multiple techniques for Emotional Stressors, including Feelings Buried Alive Never Die, The Five Minute Phobia Cure, Positive Point Therapy, Color Therapy, Sound Therapy, Acupuncture, NLP etc.

Toxins of almost any type affects the emotions.  Detoxification is necessary in all of us on Planet Earth at this time.  We cannot escape the many toxicities in and around us.  Testing for heavy metals and environmental toxins is very important.  OHS has Opti-Enviro and Opti-Metals Detox that are multiple tier homeopathic remedies that can be answers to prayer for emotional and physical dysfunction.  Doing Foot Baths, Far Infrared Saunas, nutritional detox supplements, such as Optimal Liver/Kidney, or Optimal-Cleanse and Repair can be part of the pieces to the Health Puzzle.  Hair analysis, toxic urine challenges, blood testing and muscle response testing can be very helpful adjuncts to finding solutions.  Contact the office for the Brimhall Advantage SBN Lab testing program.

Allergies/Sensitivities are very prevalent.  I do not think there is one person that escapes this complication.  Most people do not recognize an allergic or sensitivity involvement to air, water, milk, infections, contaminations, food, emotions, pollens, genetic alterations, etc.  There are many was to test the body for these issues, both manually, with skin and body fluids, as well as with instrumentation.  I use the ASA on almost every patient I see to do an electronic computerized evaluation and treatment.  Again you can go on www.brimhall.com or call 480-964-5198 for more information and availability on all we have talked about.

On my parting comments I want to encourage you to try the Magna Nutrients CBD Oil.  I have written several articles this past couple of months in the Puzzle Pieces.  I have seen so many things improve, I am hooked for life.  This comes from hemp and has the THC removed where you are only getting the medicinal part of the plant.
