Stress Causes a Cascade of Detrimental Effects That Can Be Reduced

Some think of stress in manageable degrees is good.  Some think it as both good and bad. For instance, stress can motivate us to go to school, study for an exam, work harder and pay our bills quicker and easier.  Stress can motivate us further to buy alarm systems for our homes, businesses or cars, and it can stimulate us to better provide for our families.


However, any stress causes malfunction in human function and physiology.  The more stress we are under and the less we do to DE-STRESS, the bigger the problems become, even to the point of promoting early death.  Stress is accumulative, and it doesn’t not matter which of the Six Interferences it is, it all adds up and creates to overall dysfunction and dis-ease.  We need to accomplish Stress Without Distress as Hans Selye wrote about years ago, describing its progressive three stages and many side-effects of degeneration and malfunction.

Too much stress is bad for every aspect for the brain and body.  According to the National Safety Council, as much as Eighty Percent of all disease and illness is triggered or mediated by stress?

Chronic release of high levels of stress hormones has been associated with conditions that make us unhappy, sad, depressed, affect appetite, increase sugar and fat cravings, etc., that lead to abdominal obesity and its many problems.

The literature states long-term releases of high levels of stress hormones has been associated with:

  • Low energy
  • Poor concentration
  • Elevated cholesterol levels
  • Heart disease and hypertension
  • Increased risk for strokes
  • Diabetes
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Osteoporosis
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Reduced immune system function
  • Weight gain or unhealthy weight loss
