The beginning of all pain is Inflammation and therefore if you relieve inflammation, you relieve pain. Inflammation is caused by a cascade of events. The enzyme cyclooxygenase, or COX (either cox 1 or cox 2) works on fatty acids to produce prostaglandins. PGE1 is made from the fatty acid di-homo-gamma linolenic acid (souce black currant seed oil). PGE2 is made from arachidonic acid. PGE2 is inflammatory, PGE1 in anti-inflammatory.

It has also been demonstrated that cancer cells are surrounded by an abnormally heavy concentration of COX-2 enzymes. For many years drug companies have sold aspirin and other pharmaceuticals to relieve pain and inflammation by inhibiting COX-2 but at the same time inhibiting COX-1 with this action. There are protective prostaglandins that are made by COX-1, along with inflammatory prostaglandins, like PGE 2. The inhibition of COX-12 supposedly allows these good prostaglandins that protect the stomach and intestinal mucosa to survive. I say supposedly because ulceration can still be a side effect, but yes, there is less ulceration with the COX-2 inhibitors. COX-1 is a protective enzyme that produces prostaglandin. The taking of aspirin, ibuprofen, etc. robs some of this good prostaglandin protection. I have seen reports that estimate 46,000 people die annually from the overuse of aspirin alone.
Other drugs have come along and been labeled miracles as they are COX-2 inhibitors, without inhibiting COX-1, such as Vioxx, Bextra, Celebrex, etc. These drugs do not cause GI irritation or weak blood vessels, but they have been found to increase heart attacks and strokes because they induce blood clots. The risks were so great that the FDA temporarily took some of these off the market. Celebrex is the only one that came back.
Since inflammation is the cause of pain, whether acute or chronic, what if we found nutrients that work on the COX-2 pathway and possibly the 5-LOX pathway, without the side effects of drugs? We could call and do call this product, with a combination of many protective nutrients, TOTAL INFLAM. It contains curcumin from turmeric, and an Indian herb boswellia! Inflammation is considered to be involved in almost all chronic disease, not just pain. Researchers at M.D Anderson Hospital in Houston Texas stated that curcumin, in laboratory studies was very effective against inflammation, pain and chronic diseases.
There are many natural ingredients that can support and work synergistically with curcumin to relieve both acute and chronic pain. For example, ginger, cayenne, bioflavonoids, lipoic acid, quercetin, glutathione, silymarin, milk thistle and boswellia can enhance the anti-inflammatory properties of curcumin. They are all found in Total Inflam. Look up some of these nutrients on the internet and you will be amazed at the hundreds of scientific studies and research behind each one of them. In peer reviewed professional journals, there are over 2,000 published abstracts of various studies on turmeric and curcumin alone.
These nutrients have also been identified in pharmacology as anti-bacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-yeast, antiallergenic, anti-inflammatory, a powerful antioxidant, antitumor and anticancer. From the research available today, curcumin and these other synergistic nutrients found in Total Inflam are possibly one of the best and safest aids in reducing inflammation and pain available to you and your patients.
References: Curcumin is a natural substance that decreases Cox-2 (Carcinogenesis. 2004 Apr 8), as well as ginger. In fact, researchers suggest that ginger, "offers a complementary and alternative approach to modulate the inflammatory process involved in arthritis" (In Vitro Cell Dev Biol Anim. 2004 Mar-Apr;40(3-4):95-101). Boswellia appears to have an influence on the eicosanoid pathway and Cox 2 as well (Integr Cancer Ther. 2002 Mar;1(1):7-37). Another natural ingredient, quercetin, has also been “found to effectively suppress the COX-2 promoter activity” (Carcinogenesis, Vol. 21, No. 5, 959-963, May 2000).
Our theme is to correct with the Six Steps the cause of the inflammation, pain and dis-ease, while reducing the inflammation with Total Inflam. The research shows by reducing the inflammation, you also help the acute or chronic condition to improve as well as interrupt the pain cycle.
We look forward to seeing you very soon at a Nutri-West/Brimhall Seminar where we cover your nutritional needs in great detail, as well as the most advanced structural correction in spinal, extremity, fascial, scar and craniosacral therapy. We teach laser therapy at each seminar including the new QUANTUM LASER PROTOCOLS.
